• Woodwind

Woodwind

We offer tuition in:

• Flute
• Piccolo

Woodwind instruments are becoming increasingly popular, with an increase in wind instruments in bands and orchestras in the community.

As woodwind instruments are straight, the hands do not work against each other, and younger students may find them an easier introduction to music.

The technical aspects include breathing, finger placement, scales and arpeggios. You can perform, compose and improvise using woodwind and even record your compositions on your own CD.

The exams taken are with the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music in both classical and jazz repertoire. Instruments are available to hire, subject to availability.

• Brass

Brass

We offer tuition in:

• Trumpet
• Cornet
• Horn
• Euphonium
• Trombone

Each lesson is personalised to meet your individual musical preference, whether as a soloist or performing in a group or big band. All genres covered, including classical, pop, jazz, blues and rock.

You can enter exams with the Associate Board of the Royal Schools of Music where you will perform 3 graded pieces, scales, sight reading and an aural – we coach you through the whole process.

Instruments are available to hire, subject to availability.

• String

Strings

Stringed instruments are becoming more popular with small ensembles. This provides an opportunity to work with a small group, a variety of instruments and improve musical technicalities such as pitch, harmony, and tone. We offer tuition in violin, viola and cello, with all styles and genres being covered.

Students can develop their musical ability by being entered for Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music examinations, which include scales, sight-reading, performance pieces and aural.

Lessons also include the opportunity to record progress onto a CD, which can be kept for personal use or could be used as a gift for family and friends.

Instruments are available to hire, subject to availability.

• Guitar and Bass

Guitars and bass

Learn to play guitar as a hobby or improve your skills to play in groups and bands. All lessons match an individual’s requirements, from beginners to experienced players, and covering different playing styles and genres. We also cover improving techniques, music theory, song writing, guitar maintenance and expanding your repertoire.

We teach acoustic or electric guitar and bass, and have a wide range of different instruments you can try, with 5 specially equipped guitar rooms. Small guitars are available for younger children.

Lessons can be one to one, paired, as a family or in groups.

We have a 100% pass rate in Rockschool exams since 2003, from debut to Grade 8.

• Drums

Drums

Our drum department is one of the best equipped in the area. Featuring 5 fully equipped group teaching and one to one rooms we have good quality sets of:

• Mapex acoustic drum kits
• Roland electric kits drum kits

Whether you are a complete beginner or a more advanced player, everyone can find a way to improve their techniques and skills, including stick tricks! You can learn at your own pace – individually or in a group with friends or your family.

Tuition is for complete beginners through to experienced and skilled drummers. You can drum for fun to your own CDs, or work towards Rockschool exams and through the grades. We can record your drumming so you can listen back at your leisure.

Examinations can be taken from debut to grade 8 through Rockschool.

• Piano and Keyboards

Piano and Keyboards

Playing the piano or keyboard can improve co-ordination and concentration. Although pianists are often solo performers, duets are encouraged within lessons to increase confidence.

Singers and instrumentalists often require piano accompaniment and many bands and orchestras also require a pianist. Keyboards also provide a good musical foundation around timbre, texture, dynamics and tempo, which can help with composition and improvisation skills.

Students can perform their own work in our concerts and record their achievements in our well equipped studio.

Classical and jazz exams can be taken through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music as well as Rockschool exams.

• Learning Centre

Get Sorted’s Learning Centre offers a range of creative educational packages for young people needing additional or alternative support due to:

• Behavioural problems
• Learning difficulties
• Offending behaviours
• Abuse of bullying
• Mental health problems
• Social difficulties

All learning programmes are based on individual needs and include basic and life skills. We offer a range of accredited courses including AQA, NCFE and the Local Award, in addition to ASDAN ‘U’ Choose awards. The awards are flexible, allowing students to work in areas of individual interest, for example cooking, health and beauty, art and swimming. Students work at their own pace and are guided toward their next challenge.

Our staff are qualified and experienced, and offer support and guidance in addition to signposting young people to other agencies and career opportunities.

Age range 11 - 16 , including those not in education, employment or training (NEETs).

• Primary Schools

Primary schools

Get Sorted has an excellent reputation for working with primary schools to enrich the curriculum by adding another dimension. We can deliver on school premises for assemblies, PPA time, curriculum music, topic work, after-school clubs, multi-media and much more! We can even run whole ‘themed’ days for example multi-cultural days, or around a topic of your choosing. Please call us to discuss your requirements.

We offer group and whole class activities using a variety of instruments, including our ever popular electric guitars and band development. We supply the instruments!

• Singing

Singing

As talent shows become increasingly popular on television, many people want to sing more but need additional confidence. Everyone has the ability to sing, whatever their age, and we guide you through the breathing techniques, vocal warm ups, scales and arpeggios, projection, harmony and pieces that will improve your singing skills.

We over all genres of music from jazz, musical theatre, classical, pop, rock, blues, gospel and many more.

Many of our students started out as solo singers, and are now enjoying singing in small groups, as well as in concerts and local events. We offer vocal coaching to Rockschool and Associated Board standards, and you can take exams at all levels.

All our coaching rooms are provided with sound equipment, backing tracks and pianos for live accompaniment, and you can even record your own CD.

Stun your friends at the next karaoke night, or maybe you might be next on the T.V.!

• Fit and Fun Drumming

Fit and Fun Drumming

Fit and Fun drumming classes are perfect for children and young people as it’s a fun way to keep fit while learning to drum! Using an exercise fit ball as a drum, an enormous amount of energy is expanded. Children and young people love it, as it’s different, fun, channels their aggression and makes them feel good. It can even improve concentration. Classes last for 30 minutes. Look out for our DVD of young people enjoying this new exercise form.

All activities can lead to a performance and/or a recording.

We also offer enterprise and arts activities which are tailored to your individual requirements, from a half day to a full week of activities meeting the enterprise entitlement.

• T’ai chi

T’ai chi

We teach Snapdragon T’ai Chi, an award winning technique developed especially for children and young people. The students learn special T’ai Chi stretching and aerobic movement designed to increase oxygen levels and blood flow within the body, followed by T’ai Chi forms and calming breathing techniques. Used in dozens of schools across the north Midlands, teachers report:

• Higher concentration levels and increased focus
• Improved academic and SATs results
• Improved self confidence, reduced stress levels, and energising and calming effects.
• Excellent results as a Behavioural Improvement Strategy

Some schools use Snapdragon T’ai Chi towards the government’s target of 4 hours of physical activity per child per week. Classes last 30 minutes.

Adults

Adults are just as welcome as children and young people! Activities for adults include:

• Adult band – covers a wide range of music for adults 19 . All abilities and instruments welcome to join.
• Individual lessons – learn a new instrument or improve your existing skills with one to one tuition. If you are part of a musical family, you can have a family learning session together with your children.
• Complete beginners – our taster sessions allow you to tryout different instruments to find out whether you like it before committing yourself to buying an instrument.
• Adults with special needs can join a group experiencing a variety of different activities according to individual need and ability.
• ‘Returning rockers!’ – if you played in a band when you were younger and would love to play again, then this is for you! Hone your skills over 3 weeks and then in week 4 perform in a live gig with your new band. Can be run on Saturdays or evenings. Give us a call to register your interest.
• Team building - learn new skills, build trust, connection and teamwork through active learning, while having great fun together. All activities are tailored to suit your team using movement and rhythm. Get Sorted offers a two-hour session either on or off site. Group sizes can range from 6 up to 30 depending on the space available.

Multimedia: Music - Art - Film - Radio

The Environment:

The Multimedia department has a large group room and 4 media suites offering the chance to learn in a creative and friendly atmosphere. Students have commented that “the multimedia department is a great learning environment.”

Recording studios -

Learners are able to use our dedicated recording studios which boast a selection of high quality microphones and recording equipment and the latest up-to-date music technology software. You can record your singing, rapping, drumming and instrument playing.

DJ Studio -

DJ rooms are available with state of the art Pioneer CD decks and classic vinyl Technics turntables. Use CDs and vinyl to learn how to mix, scratch and beat-match. Record your own DJ set to CD or MP3.

Video editing suite -

Film makers are given the opportunity to use high quality editing software and up-to-date digital cameras to capture, edit and create short films, news reels, music videos, animations and documentaries.

• Clubs

Clubs

All our clubs offer the chance to play lots of instruments while having fun and meeting different staff. You can make new friends who have similar interests and who are in the same age group whilst developing your skills and musical knowledge. We include all instruments, all genres of music, and all ability levels from complete beginner to more advanced levels.

We have a range of clubs in the evenings which include:

• Junior rock clubs
• Junior jamming
• Mixed music clubs
• Dance and drama clubs
• Muisic clubs for those with special needs

Clubs run throughout the week, Monday to Thursday from 5pm onwards.

We can set up any music club where there is enough interest – talk to us about your ideas!

Get Sorted offers a variety of activities to all community groups, including:

All abilities and ages catered for. Sessions can be regular or one-off.

Radio Show - an opportunity to develop and record a podcast or radio show that includes songs, interviews, news and weather.

Digital Photography - learn modern techniques and use high quality cameras to capture your best shots.

Create a Band - an opportunity to experience what it’s like to be in a band, develop song writing skills, explore sounds and styles, jam with other musicians, create an image and promote the band.

Film Making - write a short film with characters and storyboard and then direct, act and edit it to produce your final cut.

• Accreditation

Accreditation

NCFE Music Technology - gives students an opportunity to develop skills in recording, MIDI sequencing and performance, and to produce their own music.

AQA unit awards - available in: learning to play guitar, bass, drums, or keyboards; radio skills; rap vocals; and producing a music CD.

ASDAN Awards - learn new skills to build a portfolio by completing a number of exciting challenges.

Animation workshops; graphic design; stencil art; Photoshop techniques; ICT skills; web page creation; circus skills; and creating an audio book.
